sociology news analysis essay? I have an essay I need to do called.. sociology news analysis. I pretty much have to summarize the news, no older than 2008, I find and apply it to a sociologist perspective. I'd like to use the Conflict Theory since I understand it best. I'm having difficulties on this paper because I can't even find a news article that I can apply this to. I was thinking about doing something on gay marriage..how they don't have equal rights but I'm having troubles finding an article relating to that. Any help would be helpful!! Thank youu!

School assignment: news analysis? For school I have to analysis a news story that is on both a commercial station and a non-commercial station. An thing I should look for? I live in Australia.
Is it amazing to you that Fox news uses Karl Rove for their dem convention analysis? Is there any other station in the world that would think of using a republican strategy mastermind to provide analysis of a democratic convention with a straight face? Honestly.... I have to seriously wonder if I am hallucinating when I watch Fox. They should really have a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen "this is just comedy". Many of you miss the fact that Rove is hired by Fox news, he is not merely a guest commentator.
What do you think about so many news channels in India having so many pre-match and post match analysis? with "Experts" Not just in news channels, but also in sports channels there is sometimes lengthy discussions At the end of it there is nothing worthywhile Dont you find it too boring? Does this happen in other countries too? Bond, I really wish that happens in other sports.... The sad thing is that these news channels care a rat's fart about what's going on in other sports even when they win, leave alone other times

In today's Market news analysis:? Helium was up, feathers were down. Paper was stationary. Fluorescent tubing was dimmed in light trading. Knives were up sharply. Cows steered into a bull market. Pencils lost a few points. Hiking equipment was trailing. Elevators rose, while escalators continued their slow decline. Weights were up in heavy trading. Light switches were off. Mining equipment hit rock bottom. Diapers remained unchanged. Shipping lines stayed at an even keel. The market for raisins dried up. Coca Cola fizzled. Caterpillar stock inched up a bit. Sun peaked at midday. Balloon prices were inflated. Scott Tissue touched a new bottom. And batteries exploded in an attempt to recharge the market.
When did TV news start putting the spinners/liars on the air? It used to be they had experts do in-depth analysis of news stories. Now they have some spin doctor from the right and one from the left get on and tell half-truths or outright lies. One says black is white and the other says white is black. All it does is confuse and divide.
Technical Analysis or Based On News? I'm beginning to day trade futures and have been studying books on that discuss a lot of technical analysis based on charts. But charts are backward looking and not indicative of forward performance. It's easy to look at a chart and say what you would've done to make a profitable trade. On the other hand, riding on a trend based on current industry developments looks a more realistic approach. Can anyone advise which is better? Thanks!
Who has the best site for breaking financial news? I want to momentum trade on breaking corporate news. Is there a site that provieds real time breaking news and investment analysis of that news. If a company reports earnings of $1.00/Share but analysts are looking for $1.50 that would be bad news but I won't know what analysts are looking for so I need some quick analysis of how this news will effect a stock price. Anybody out there doing this?
News articles analysis? Hey guys, i gotta do a major assignment on analysing news articles or reports of an event or incident that has happened. Anyone have any ideas? I am looking for articles that were controversial with newspapers reporting the events or seem to be biased. Thanks!
Forex News For Fundamental analysis? Does any one have any Idea how i can get important forex news on my computer as early as they are released? News in Forex market are useless if you get them a little late.
film news, reviews and analysis blog? Information on the latest releases, both commercial and independent. Personal opinions on current film and media related topics with focus on more of the obscure and non-commercial films currently being made
Have our news services gone completely bananas or is my attitude just stupid? I've watched the Wolf Blitzer interview of Cheney (not one of my favorite people) and cannot believe that the question concerning his daughter and her pregnancy was even asked. This is irrellevant and trivial when compared to other subjects discussed and is so personal a matter that it is almost blatant harassment of Cheney by Blitzer, IMO. What disturbs me most is that this is a trend in our news services. The 'question' is now being exhaustively reviewed and critiqued on many TV channels. We get more fluff, like who's divorcing whom, or who's not wearing panties in some crotch shot from Hollywood and who's blowing coke that there isn't time enough left for real news analysis. Is anyone else as tired of this as I am? Does anyone else consider not allowing their children to watch the news? Does anyone else want to see 'hard' news and have quality analysis of it like I do? Maybe I'm alone? Please comment about how you feel about this.
Are 24 hour news channels the death of real media in America? a certain news channel for example says it shows both sides, Why do they think that the news has two sides? Wouldn't News be better if they just said the facts without infusing it their personal views? Can you even really call it news if it is an analysis view of what happened? Why can't the news just tell us what happened, instead of giving their take on it? what a surprise a conservative complaining about liberals. You can't see the forest for the trees rerugged.
Is there any American Television news that is not just a bunch of vacuous opinions? I'm not sure where the idea that a panel of opinionated neophytes is a good stand in for expert analysis came from but it sucks. I have no real idea what is happening because the 'news' is monopolized by celebrity deaths, detoxes or outraged commentators spouting off about some poor child who was murdered and how could the parents let it happen..... Anybody else frustrated? Nancy Grace and all her reactionary mouthpiece cronies should go sell shoes.
Where to get important news for Sony and Samsung? I am doing a financial analysis on Samsung and Sony, to see what company would be the best choice for a investment. I need all important headlines and news for Sony and Samsung for the time 2006-2007. If anyone has or knows where to get this information, it will be greatly appreciated. 10 points to who ever can get this information. Thanks!

Is the Fox News telephone poll embarrasing for the presenters? After the debate, Fox News invited people to telephone or txt who you thought won the Presidential debate. LOL. 84% thought McCain won, 11% Obama. The results were similar in the last two debates. Of course we all know why the results were so biased, but the presenters on Fox and Friends looked SO embarrassed this morning as they were beginning to realize just how conservative their audience is. I actually felt sorry for them because they just couldn't use the results as any kind of general voter analysis. It was just such a joke.
Why doesn't American news run headlines like...Analysis: Crises May Lead to New World Order (CNN Europe)? If you say this in America you get labeled a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist. Are Americans simply in denial about what is happening?? http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/04/01/oakley.summit/ "In an uncomfortable reminder of serious divisions over the Iraq war, U.S. President Barack Obama and Brown both favor driving on fiscal stimulus, even if the governor of the Bank of England is cautioning his prime minister he can't afford to throw any more money at the problem......Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel and France's President Nicolas Sarkozy, each with more national traditions than Obama and Brown, and with their welfare states already pumping money into their economies as unemployment increases, are pursuing a different agenda." this calls...........true true. But he's about the ONLY guy on any mainstream network doing so.
When the end of the world comes, will it be sudden, or time enough to make an evening news report on it? Will the news people scamper from one location to the other reporting on the trouble spots as they arise in flames? Will they interview folks, and ask their opinions? Will they give their own analysis on each situation? Will there be TV news panels with invited guests for discussions? What will they say when they sign off, "That's it from New York, stay tuned for continued reports." Will they make up a title for the event as they do for all major news reports?
Why is Yahoo News becoming so biased? I used to trust Yahoo News as a good place to get links to factual stories and neutral analysis. However, in the past month or so, the links have leaned so far towards Obama/Democrats, that I have lost faith. It's just as bad as Fox News, just for the other side. What happened to Yahoo News?
Why newspapers are going tabloid? What are the specification of a tabloid paper news treatment? How Why papers such as independent change size? Is it just a size change or is it way more than that? How about the treatment of say the same story by the old independent(or what ever) and the new one? Can someone analyse a tabloid such as Norwegian "dagbladet" or American "Washington Post" or the English "independent" or any other important paper that has switched to tabloid format and send me a copy of the paper along their analysis? I don,t think it's a step backward but I want to know from a journalistic point of view how a newspaper changes? how it's content change? How it's news treatment change? How the re;atioship between gournalists and his buses up in the editing board changes? how their vision of journalism changes? How their "in the head image" of their audiences change? who is the new audience? How does he read a paper? How news editors ask their journalists to go about gathering information to write the story and when writing what should be their main focuse?
Why do so many people who have died in Iraq come from poor areas? Many of the hometowns of the war dead aren't just small, they're poor. The CNN News analysis found that nearly 75% of those killed in Iraq came from towns where the per capita income was below the national average. More than half came from towns where the percentage of people living in poverty topped the national average. No rich people from expensive areas joined the military. Isaid "Why do so many come from poor areas"...I didn't say "ALL" come from poor areas.
Year end non-news stories? I read the news all year, listen to in-depth news analysis, etc., and I just am bored out of my SKULL with the year-end "round-up" stories that you get in this last week or so of the year. Does anyone else look forward to getting through this week to get back to real news?
How much attention have you been paying to the news coverage of the Minneapolis bridge collapse? With things like this, I try to get the main facts, some intelligent analysis, and then turn it off. Anything beyond that is voyeurism. Most unpleasant stories involving private citizens are usually warnings or reminders. I just try to learn from them and move on. Last week the spotlight was on baseball coaches getting killed by batted balls, this week it is on bridge maintenance. What I take from it all is that life is full of risks and every day is a gift. And maybe also we'll learn from tragedy and make things better in the future.
Do people who say Fox News is biased watch it? Is that how they know? When someone makes a "Fox is biased" claim, I often see people respond by saying that must mean the claimant is watching Fox, otherwise they are talking out of their you-know-what. Is that a fair analysis? If so, does that mean that all the people who claim nearly every news network (except Fox) is liberally-biased frequently watch and read every media outlet?
Fox News Claims 9 Of Top 10 Cable News Programs In Q1? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/01/fox-news-claims-9-of-top_n_181878.html In all of cable, Fox News finished the quarter as the second-most-watched network in primetime, behind only USA Network. CNN ranked 17th, MSNBC placed 24th and HLN, CNN’s sister news channel, came in 30th. For the total programming day, Fox News was 5th, CNN was 14th and MSNBC was 28th. Fox News also dominated the list of top news analysis programs, claiming nine of the top 10 spots. “The O’Reilly Factor” finished first, averaging 3.4 million viewers and posting a 27% gain over last year. “O’Reilly” also wrapped up the month of March with its 100th consecutive month in the No. 1 spot. Following “O’Reilly” in the top five were “Hannity” (2.7 million), “Glenn Beck” (2.2 million), “Special Report With Bret Baier” (2 million) and “The Fox Report With Shepard Smith” (1.9 million). MSNBC broke into the top 10 with “Countdown With Keith Olbermann,” which averaged 1.4 million viewers for the quarter.
Will Obama succeed in intimidating Fox News into shilling for him, like the Mainstream Media ? According to Fox News: Obama Attacks FOX News in Defense of His Wife Tuesday, August 12, 2008 SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: Once again Senator Barack Obama is taking shots at the fox news channel. It seems he just can't seem to stop talking about us Joining us now with reaction, FOX News contributor Karl Rove. Karl, every time you're on we've got Ayers attacking me, in the last three weeks Obama's attacking me, we're going to show tape of Father Pfleger attacking me over the weekend, and I'm thinking — you're smiling. I'm looking at you're smiling. Why are they going after — I guess it's the one media outlet that's not fawning over them, so I guess they feel very defensive http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,402222,00.html Personally, I don't think it will work. Fox News has always given Americans an independent, objective news analysis. They simply won't fawn over Obama like the Mainstream Media, no matter how much he tries to intimidate them.
What is the most even-handed weekly news magazine? I am currently receiving Newsweek, and although I'm liberal, I'm tired of having someone else's opinion being stuffed down my throat in place of me arriving at my own opinion through analysis of the insights to be gained from even-handed reportage ('reportage,' a word I've never typed before.;). So, what do you guys recommend? Or is Newsweek it? (pukes)
news article for school? i have to do a news analysis and the article i was assigned is difficult.. can someone please sum it up for me on what its talkin about?? thanks. WASHINGTON - Americans' wealth rose this spring for the first time in nearly two years, with stocks and home values gaining as the recession faded. Still, household net worth remains about 19 percent below its peak in the third quarter of 2007, before the recession began. The Federal Reserve said net worth grew by $2 trillion to $53.1 trillion in the April-to-June quarter. Net worth, or the value of assets such as homes, checking accounts and investments minus debts like mortgages and credit cards, rose nearly 4 percent from the first quarter, the Fed said. Even with the gain, Americans' net worth stands well below the $65.3 trillion it reached two years ago. The second quarter increase in net worth was the first since wealth peaked. According to the Fed report, the pickup was led by gains in stock portfolios. The value of Americans' stock holdings rose 21.6 percent from the first quarter, marking the first increase in two years. Net worth in the second quarter also was boosted by higher home prices. The value of real-estate holdings rose 1.8 percent, according to the Fed report. That was the first gain since the final quarter of 2006. This week, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said the worst recession since the 1930s probably is over. Most analysts say the U.S. economy is growing in the current quarter, which ends Sept. 30, at an annual rate of 3 to 4 percent. The economy shrank at a 1 percent pace in the second quarter, much slower than in previous quarters. Bernanke warned that the pace of recovery probably won't be brisk enough to generate solid job growth and keep the unemployment rate — now at a 26-year high of 9.7 percent — from rising. Collectively, homeowners had 43.1 percent equity in their homes in the second quarter, according to the Fed report. That was up only slightly from a record low of 41.9 percent in the first quarter. The report also showed that total household debt — including mortgages, credit cards, autos and other consumer loans — stood at $13.7 trillion in the second quarter. That's down slightly from $13.8 trillion in the first three months of this year, and suggests that households are trimming debt, but are doing so slowly. Debt peaked at $13.9 trillion in the spring of last year.
What is the most objective source for news coverage of the conflict in Palestine? I am surprised to find that when I google up news accounts of recent events the online news-source that is consistently the most balanced and accurate is Xinhua - ChinaView. Of all places. I mean, let's face it almost all sources take an inflected view but in this case they don't see themselves as being stake-holders in the Israel-Palestine conflict,so they just do factual coverage with good analysis. I'm really impressed - and surprised. Anyone else ever notice this? Opinions? other candidates for Most Objective?
Where can I get eay-to-understand political analysis? I'm really interested in following the current state of affairs in the US, but I don't understand a lot of the technical and political jargon on regular news sites. I'd like a website to visit that breaks down day-to-day information in a way that's easy for the layperson to understand. I also really like editorials and analysis. My favorite sources to get news from atm are the Daily Show and USA Today, if that gives you an idea of the perspective I'm coming from. Thank you!
Is there any political website started by a youngster ? I am 22 years old guy. I am looking to start a political news/analysis based website for my country(India). I wanted to get an idea by having a look at similar successful websites started by young people (18-30 years) across the world (like fivethirtyeight.com in US). Background information about the founders of such a website would be appreciated.
Is CNN part of the Obama campaign? For days now, CNN has devoted hours to planning Obama's strategy for winning "swing" States, while pointing out how dismal they think McCain's chances are. The Wolf Blitzer show seems like it is being broadcast from Obama Headquaters. They consider this news analysis? I call it blatant media bias.
Is the Corporate Media an absolutely worthless source of objective News Reporting? America's biggest, most important news organizations have, over the past 25 years, fallen prey to merger after merger, acquisition after acquisition... to the point where they are, now, tiny parts of immeasurably larger corporate entities - entities whose primary business often has nothing to do with news. Entities that may, at any given time, have literally hundreds of regulatory issues before multiple arms of the government concerning a vast array of business interests. These are entities that, as publicly-held and traded corporations, have as their overall, reigning mandate: Provide a return on shareholder value. Increase profits. And not over time, not over the long haul, but quarterly. One might ask just where the news fits into this model. And if you really need an answer, you can turn on your television, where you will see the following: Political analysis reduced to in-studio shouting matches between partisans armed with little more than the day's talking points. DAN RATHER http://www.truthout.org/article/dan-rather-slams-corporate-news-conference
Do you often wonder why corporate America is so corrupted? Here's an example... In the past five years, pink slips have descended upon tens of thousands of union workers in Michigan, while others have seen their health care and pension benefits gutted and wages frozen or cut. But in many cases, labor's pain stops at the union hall door. During the toughest economic times for organized labor in decades, union leaders are more likely to keep their jobs and get raises than the members they serve. A Detroit News analysis of U.S. Department of Labor data revealed a growing pay divide between labor bosses and the rank and file who pay their salaries with their dues. Michigan's biggest unions represented 60,000 fewer workers in 2006 compared with 2002. While membership plummeted 14 percent, jobs at union halls remained safe, dropping less than 1 percent. Workers who kept their jobs saw the disparity between their paychecks and those of their union bosses grow. The pay gap between the state's 50 top-paid labor leaders and union workers has grown by $18,000 since 2002 -- an economic chasm expanding by almost $10 a day. Records supplied to the Labor Department by the unions themselves show that the state's 50 top-paid union officials now earn an average of $186,000. More than 1,000 labor officers and staffers in Michigan made more than $100,000 in 2006, more than twice as much as the average union worker. Union leaders and members have long complained about the millions paid to CEOs in salaries and perks. For instance, Alan Mulally, president and CEO of Ford Motor Co., was paid more than $28 million last year -- that's over 450 times more than the average line worker at the company. And Michigan's top corporate titans had their average pay more than double since 2001, The News reported in May. Less known to the public -- and to many union members -- is the growing pay gap within many unions. In 2006, the highest-paid union official in Michigan was Grosse Pointe Park's Walter "Ralph" Mabry, the former executive secretary-treasurer of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters. He was paid more than $410,000 last year -- up $26,000 from the year before. That's a 6.7 percent pay hike at a time when his union lost 5 percent of its members, records show. "That's silly," said Peter Morici, a business professor at the University of Maryland, about Mabry's pay. "Those are the kind of things that make them (union officials) look bad."
Why do Americans chose American Idol over Iraq war News? Is not watching the news unsporting of our troops? CNN recently broadcast that America prefferd American Idol over the News in Iraq for reasons in one analysis "To add some fluff to cover up the overstimulating fear of the war in Iraq". Now to some extent and percentage of the population I would agree. However I would also add, in my opinion, that Americans also to some extent tune out the war for reasons of no confidance, shadeyness, and possably failure of the bush administration to be successful in the Iraq campaine. Personaly I'm tired of and impatiantly waiting for the bush administration to be over! As am angree for being mislead!
Is it possible for me to play Yahoo news videos? According to the "solutions" analysis, I updated my three browser: Firefox, Safari, and Opera. I also downloaded Flip4Mac and I still cannot play news videos. I have a Dual 2.3 GHz Power PC G5 MacIntosh and I'm running OSX 10.4.10. Thanks
Why is there a rise in extreme violence in psychiatric hospitals? http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/story/72700.html The News Tribune Drugs might breed violence attacks on staff rise at Western State Hospital M. ALEXANDER OTTO May 28th, 2007 Violence has been a growing problem at Western State Hospital for years. If present trends continue, one in four of the Lakewood mental hospital's more than 1,700 workers can expect to be assaulted by a patient in 2007, according to the state Department of Labor and Industries. For years, hospital administrators have blamed the violence on familiarcauses: not enough staff members, not enough money and increased societal violence that leads to the admission of more-violent patients. But they don't have the data to back up those assertions. A News Tribune analysis of drug-prescribing trends at Western since 1999 finds another possible factor: Western is giving more patients psychiatric drugs with side effects that can include extreme agitation and aggression. The drugs include newer antidepressants and newer anti-psychotics dubbed atypical anti-psychotics. The newer drugs, which are expensive compared with older, generic alternatives, have been heavily promoted at the hospital by the pharmaceutical companies that make them. Sales representatives for those companies have logged about 1,200 visits to Western since late 2003, when administrators began tracking their activity. Concerned about their influence on prescribing patterns, the hospital in March banned all drug company representatives from visiting the campus to meet with doctors. The link between changes in drug use at Western and recent increases in violence "is very plausible," said Dr. Stefan Kruszewski, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and an expert on the side effects of anti-psychotic drugs who is on the faculty at Eastern University, outside Philadelphia. "There is a significant relationship between restlessness and agitation induced by medicine and the propensity for violence," Kruszewski said. Those assumptions, which have dominated internal and state agency violencestudies at Western for more than a decade, do not hold up under analysis. Since 1999, the staffing ratio of ward workers to patients has improved from 1.18 workers for every patient to 1.34 workers per patient in 2006. Funding has increased about 50 percent overall - going from $106 million in 1999 to $156 million in 2007 - and has kept pace with medical inflation. Hospital administrators don't offerstatistical evidence that society has become more violent, leading to a more violent patient population. Meanwhile, violent crime in the areas from which Western draws its patients has dropped significantly, according to U.S. Department of Justice statistics. What does correspond with the increase in violence is the roughly 35 percent increase since 1999 in the use of drugs that a hospital pharmacy handbook and drug experts say are more likely than similar medications to induce agitation and aggression, The News Tribune analysis indicates. By the end of 2006, there was roughly one order for these drugs for every patient at Western. NEW DRUGS, MORE DRUGS Drug therapy has been the mainstay of psychiatric treatment for decades, and it long has been known that while some medications can make patients drowsy, others can cause extreme agitation and a tendency to lash out. This restlessness can be physical, mental or both, This is not all this article says, but perhaps one may want to start paying attention to what is really going on?
is technical analysis enough? when buying stocks, is it enough to just look at technical analysis indicators, news, and past prices to come out ahead? or is there much more you should look at?
Do Americans believe what the media/news says? Media is a form of communication and mass publication. Journalists are not trained scientist. If you watch media you find sensationalism all the time. Facts are not always straight and where that information comes from is questionable. Do you trust the media to give you factual data that can be verified by scientific investigation or do you think the media is nothing but entertainment and sensational programs to produce more viewers? All news contains some bias because anything with superlative adjectives or accusations that cannot be proven becomes opinion. Should news networks cut back on bias or should it just continue as it is today? Did you know propaganda techniques are still being used by the media in various ways. A few identified by Institute for Propaganda Analysis are bandwagon, assertion, glittering generalities, pinpointing the enemy, and transfer. Do you accept the fact that media is allowed to use propaganda to influence your views?
What do you think: Yahoo news article about Sarah Palin ? "She is younger and less experienced than the first-term Illinois senator, and brings an ethical shadow to the ticket." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080829/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_veepstakes_analysis sounds about right to me.... I think McCain just handed the race to Obama.
